What’s the difference between a violin and a viola?

The viola burns longer! Or so says Victor Borge.  (Apologies to viola players who’ve no doubt heard the joke before.) We just want to let you know that in October, the heat is on here at HIT as our stage will feel the heat of violin, viola and cello, not from burning instruments, but from exciting performances by remarkable musicians. On Thursday 2 October we welcome the internationally acclaimed Kodak Quartet back to Ironwood. Playing traditional works as well as new works by contemporary composers, their performances have been described as “ferociously energetic and exquisitely tender”.  It has been said their concerts “…resonate with the energy of a rock band and the passion of classical string playing.”  Then on Saturday 11 October we present “the best rock and roll violinist of a generation” when Blue Violin: Candlelight present a classic rock tribute. This genre-defying, conservatory-trained virtuoso has lit up stages from Carnegie Hall to the best concert venues in Asia, Australia, and Europe. With a thousand flickering candles on the stage floor, rock  anthems are transformed into cinematic soundscapes through searing violin solos and explosive arrangements of AC/DC‘s Thunderstruck, Lynyrd Skinyrd’s Freebird, Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven and a whole lot more. As we said, in October the heat is on!
