An Experience Like No Other

On Saturday 28 October we celebrated Halloween by experiencing the theatre just as our grandparents and great grandparents did back in the 1920s. HIT  presented the 1927 silent comedy horror film The Cat and the Canary which told the story of Cyrus West, and the reading of his will twenty years after his death. Annabelle inherited her uncle’s fortune, but when she and her family spent the night in his haunted mansion, they were stalked by a mysterious figure.  The plot thickened when a lunatic known as “The Cat” escaped from an asylum and hid in the mansion.

The film was accompanied live on the Barton organ by Tim Mesun with an original score he wrote for the film. Tim’s accompaniment provided way more than simple background music; he used many of the voices and sound effects available to him on the organ to provide a rich, emotional experience!

Be sure to keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for information about future silent movie offerings.
