Mel Brooks' Silent Movie
Thoughout the 1970s and 1980s, Mel Brooks successfully spoofed entire genres of film - westerns with Blazing Saddles, horror movies with Young Frankenstein, and sci-fi with Spaceballs. On April Fool's Day, join us at the Historic Ironwood Theatre as we present Silent Movie, an affectionate parody of the slapstick films of the silent film era.

Silent Movie tells the story of a has-been comedy director as he struggles to recruit a group of big Hollywood stars to take part in his comeback project, a modern-day silent movie. Mel Brooks' cameo-filled comedy pays loving tribute to the early days of screen comedy through a succession of silent slapstick sequences.

The film will be masterfully accompanied on the Ironwood Theatre's Barton organ by our good friend Andrew Rogers, staff organist at Ann Arbor's Michigan Theatre.

If you are an afficianado of silent films, you owe it to yourself to experience Brook's tribute to Hollywood's early stars like Chaplin, Lloyd, and Keaton. And if you've never experienced an organ-accompanied silent movie, the evening will offer a wonderful opportunity to be introduced to the genre.

NEWS FLASH! Get two sets of giggles for the price of one. In addition to the Brooks movie, Andrew will also accompany a Harold Lloyd silent short High & Dizzy in which Lloyd plays a doctor sidetracked from curing his sleepwalking patients when he samples a few bottles too many of his friend's moonshine.

Don't be an April Fool - get on the phone, call your friends, and tell them this is one theatre event not to be missed!
