Released the year after the breakthrough talking picture The Jazz Singer, Show People is a 1928 silent comedy starring Marion Davies which takes a lighthearted look at Hollywood at the end of the silent film era. Davies plays a newcomer to Hollywood who wants to make her mark in drama. William Haines, a kindly slapstick comedian, takes her under his wing and her career begins to take off, but she soon outgrows him. Will her emerging ego destroy her career or will she realize who her real friends are?
Show People includes notable cameo appearances by many of the film personalities of the day, including stars Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, William S. Hart, and John Gilbert. In 2003, Show People was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
What better way to celebrate the Ironwood Theatre's 88th birthday than by watching a "culturally and historically significant" silent film, accompanied on Ironwood's Barton, named "...an organ of exceptional historic and musical merit." (American Theatre Organ Society, 2002). And though organist Andrew Rogers may not (yet!) be historically significant, his experience as staff organist at Ann Arbor's Michigan Theatre ensures this will be an evening to be remembered.

Septentrio features three of Europe’s finest contemporary musicians. They play charming and elegant Nordic folk tunes described as “...a kind of chamber folk music in a rare combination of 5-row free-bass accordion, violin and 5-string cello which makes them unique in the world.”
Firmly rooted in Nordic folk music, Septentrio combines musicians of three nationalities. Leonor Palazzo, from Belgium, plays a 5-string cello. She is particularly dedicated to baroque music and Swedish folk music. Finland is represented by the virtuoso accordionist Hannu Kella, well-known from numerous tours with the Finnish group Tsuumi Sound System. Fidler Hans Kennemark is one of Sweden's most renowned folk musicians.
When these experienced musicians and talented composers come together, they create intricate and fascinating arrangements where tight and joyful playing comes to life. Their compositions explore the full scope of sound available through this unusual combination of instruments. With its higher string, the 5-string cello makes it possible for Leonor to play the melody as well as conventional cello parts. This possibility opens new ways for melodies and harmonies to travel from one instrument to another, expanding Septentrio's musical universe.
Septentrio has performed at major folk music venues throughout Sweden and at the Kaustinen FolkMusic Festival in Finland. Their first CD, released in 201 3 by London-based ARC Music, is acclaimed both by critics and by Septentrio’s audiences all over Scandinavia. Performing together for the first time in the USA, the tour and performance at the Historic Ironwood Theatre is sponsored in part by a grant from the
