Gogebic Range Players
The Gogebic Range Players is a Committee of the Ironwood Theatre Center for the Arts. Their main purpose is to present to the community live performances by local people. By doing so, they invigorate a passion for theatre within the patrons. Performances hosted by the Gogebic Range Players typically include a night of talent, a musical play, side-splitting comedy, mind boggling mystery, or a teary-eyed drama.
History
The Gogebic Range Players (GRP) was formed back in the early 1980’s by a group of individuals who, at formation, wanted to restore the Ironwood Theatre to its former glory and on to even greater heights. It was felt this could be done most effectively under the broad umbrella of a parent organization such as Ironwood Theatre Inc., which could handle the day to day running of the theatre building, thus insuring a cooperative and equal handling of all projects by the Ironwood Theatre Board and the GRP.
The GRP began as an outgrowth of the St. James Players, a group of local performers that produced dinner theatre back in 1974 for the former St. James Hotel in downtown Ironwood. In its early history, the group also performed at local ski hills, for celebrations, in restaurants, and at the Ironwood Theatre for various “Follies,” vaudeville, and Halloween shows.
Become A Range Player
The Gogebic Range Players is asking you to consider sharing your talents in acting, directing, making costumes, finding props, designing sets, building or painting sets, applying makeup, working back stage, operating spotlights, or simply handing out posters or making phone calls. It is a very rewarding and fun time when you volunteer with the Range Players and everyone is encouraged to inquire and become a Gogebic Range Player!
